Ancestral Visitation

8” x 10”

The older I get the more I find myself thinking about my ancestors. I ponder the mystery of what they endured and how they persevered to give me the life I have in the here and now. This image was made after a trip to the land of my ancestors, Ireland. I saw many standing stones, megaliths, and ancient sites. I attended a workshop at the amazing Ballinglen Arts Center in County Mayo. This image was made by layering and digitally manipulating a former monoprint with some collage pieces that were made using Citra-Solv and magazine pages.

Humanity is still advancing; and it will probably continue to advance for hundreds of thousands of years more, always on condition that we know how to keep the same line of advance as our ancestors towards ever greater consciousness and complexity.

We must strive to become good ancestors. —Ralph Nader
