Acquedotto

7” x 5.5”

Many years ago I spent hours commuting through the Italian countryside on the public bus. (That’s where I learned Italian.) I never tired of absorbing the sights and ancient ruins. This image was made recalling the aquaducts sprinkled around the landscape.

It is so surprising to see what happens when you make a collagraph on matboard with different types of packing tape, a blowtorch, oil based ink, a viscosity roll, and a skeleton leaf collage! This reminded me of the ancient aqueducts I saw when I lived in Italy many years ago.

“The church is no more religion than the masonry of the aqueduct is the water that flows through it.”

Henry Ward Beecher
